A 3 year Journey of Becoming an NFL Cheerleader - Denver Broncos Cheerleaders 2021 - Shauri

Shauri just achieved her dream of becoming an NFL cheerleader in Denver, Colorado for the 2021-2022 NFL season.

Sharing what led her to the dream of becoming a professional cheerleader, her 3 year dance audition journey, dance auditions through the pandemic, what it felt like to hear her number called for the first time, and her advice to all aspiring pro dancers out there (that may not be hearing their number called at auditions.)

“In 2014 the NMSU Pride Marching band preformed halftime for the Denver Broncos (vs 49ers). Our director at the time, Ingrid Larragoity-Martin set up a meet and greet for the dance team and the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders.

I remember watching them practice an end zone routine and being blown away and then getting to talk with them and they were the kindest women. I decided then that I needed to be apart of that team and I am still in complete shock that I have accomplished that goal.

The journey was long but I still stand by what I told people along the way.

“I may not have made it this year but the year I do make it I get to step on that field being the best version of me possible.”

- Sha’uri

On May 15th, 2021 Shauri officially made the NFL cheerleading team of her dreams. After auditioning 3(ish) consecutive times in a row, she is now able to say that she will be living out her dreams for the 21/22 NFL season as a Broncos Cheerleader!

We’re sharing Shauri’s incredible NFL cheerleading journey with the dance community because not only is she inspiring, but sometimes you forget that everyone professional dancer has had their own personal struggles - all with a different background on how they got where they are. Do some dancers make it their first audition? Of course! But not everyone has that outcome and it is important to be reminded to keep going, even if it is not your year.. yet!
